Reedy Creek

At the front of the property, a bespoke black and weathered steel screen/fencing will provide both partial privacy and structure. Nestled among rocks and stones, a selection of ornamental grasses will be planted to soften the landscape, highlighting a variety of heights, colours, and textures. Seasonal native flowers will add to the visual appeal.

Positioned near the entrance of the home, a striking black pot will house a beautiful frangipani tree, serving as the garden's focal point. Beneath the tree, a vibrant underplanting of annual flowers will bring seasonal colour and energy. Ornamental grasses will cascade gracefully down the sides of the pot, creating a soft, flowing effect.

Pelican

The Pelican design embraces linear structure, symmetry, and a refined colour palette to capture the relaxed sophistication of the Hamptons style. The layout is organised and intuitive, creating generous circulation throughout the garden. There is ample space for children to play, open lawn for the dogs, and dedicated areas for family dining, entertaining, and unwinding.

In the Australian climate, the traditional white palette of Hamptons design can apear overly bright and glary. To soften this, I've introduced natural materials, muted greys, and layered blue tones, complemented by selective use of white. This combination maintains the coastal elegance of the Hamptons aesthetic while ensuring comfort and visual balance in strong sunlight.

Planting across both the front and rear gardens blends classic and coastal species. Topiary ballas and maicured lawn areas provide structure and formality, while the remaining plant palette is designed for ease of care, requiring only annual pruning to stay fresh and tidy.

The result is a garden that feels elegant yet relaxed - a welcoming space where family and friends can gather, play and enjoy the outdoors in comfort and style.

My design process blends the tangible world - where we can see, touch, taste, smell and hear - with the inner landscape of the mind, where we contemplate, learn, and deepen our appreciation of the enviroment. I aim to create spaces that connect these two realms, inviting people to experience nature both physically and emotionally.

Inspired by the Australian landscape, my design embraces rugged, organic forms. I use plants and materials as texture: from soft, flowing grasses to bold, triangular shapes. Australian natives sit alongside exotic protea spcies, creating contrast and harmony. Generous tree canopies offer shade, sculptural interest, and habitat for birdlife.

The garden is composed of multiple zones that can grow, evolve, and adapt over time. These spaces encourage children and adults alike to engage with one or all of the senses. There is room to socialise, interact, explore, and simply relax.

Each zone is functional, environmentally conscious, and shaped by organic forms. The design is not just a place - it is an experience to walk through, allowing nature to reveal itself gradually as you move.

Gregson Park Community Garden

I was initially unsure whether to share my first hand-drawn design project, completed as part of my TAFE sustainability studies. With no formal training in hand drawing, we were thrown straight into our first major project. To my surprise, I found myself presenting a design - and a hand-sketched plan - that I was genuinely proud of.

My project focused on creating a Cultural Garden within a larger Newcastle Community Garden. The design incorporated and ANZAC memorial, an Indigenous Yarning Circle, A BBQ and seating area, and an open grass space. Each element that was chosen was to reflect the values and stories of the community.

Behind this design was to foster interaction and strengthen community connections. I wanted to create a space that builds respectful relationships and preserve cultural knowledge, stories and traditions. The garden provides opportunities to share local cultural artwork and sculpture, and to honour history through ANZAC remembrace and community services.

This project became more than a design exercise - it became a space shaped by purpose, inclusivity, and cultural respect.

This projec represents my second hand-drawn landscape design completed during my TAFE studies. The process challenged me, but is also strengthened my confidence as I translated ideas into a hand-drawn plan that captured both styles and purpose.

The design blends a Coastal Modern aesthetic with the softness of xeriscape principles, creating a calm, sensory-rich enviroment that reflects both the clients' love of nature and my own deisgn philosophy of connecting the physical landscape with emotional wellbeing. Organic forms, natural textures, and gentle movement through planting guide visitors through a space that feels grounded, restorative, and welcoming.

My clients envisioned a space that welcomed her clients to her Holisitic Nutrition clinic at home. Functionality woven seamlessly into the layout: clear access for clinic visitors, comfortable outdoor waiting areas, practical circulation to the home and letterbox, discreet bin storage, and opportunities for privacy and relaxation. Materials such as floating boulders, natural rock, and warm timber elements reinforce the coastal character while remaining mindful of fire-retardant choices. The planting palette - soft pinks, purples, golden yellows, and layered greens - combines native and exotic species chosen for low maintenance, water efficiency, and suitablility for verge planting, while supporting birdlife and seasonal interest.

We create landscapes that connect you with nature's beauty and balance.
